Example builds › L&S Excavation › Services › Garage & Shop Pad Excavation

Detached garages, shops, and outbuildings need the same foundational discipline as a house pad — a level, properly compacted base — even though the structure is usually smaller and the scope simpler.
What's included
- Cut-and-fill grading to establish a level pad at the correct elevation
- Compaction in controlled lifts on any placed fill
- Base prep for a slab, gravel floor, or footing-supported structure depending on the build
- Drainage grading so water sheds away from the structure, not toward it
Common projects
Detached garages, workshops, pole barns, and equipment storage buildings on both new-construction and existing properties. A lot of this work is on established lots — meaning careful attention to existing landscaping, utilities, and site access that a greenfield lot won't require.
What affects cost
Pad size, how much cut/fill is needed to reach a level pad, soil conditions, and access for equipment. A small shop pad on flat, easily accessed ground is one of the more straightforward jobs we do; a pad requiring significant regrading on a sloped lot costs more.

Frequently asked questions
Do you pour the slab too, or just the pad?
We handle the excavation, grading, and compaction. Concrete forming and pouring is a related service — ask and we'll scope both together if needed.
Can you build a pad on a sloped lot?
Yes — cut-and-fill grading levels the pad regardless of the surrounding slope, though more cut/fill means more cost than a naturally flat spot.
How do you make sure the pad doesn't settle under a heavy shop floor?
Proper lift compaction on any fill placed, verified as needed on larger or heavier-use pads.
