Water line installation covers trenching and pipe-laying for new service connections, extending a line to a new structure, or replacing an aging line — excavation work that has to hit the correct depth, grade, and separation from other utilities the local water authority specifies.

What's included

• Trenching from the connection point (main or meter) to the structure, at the depth and grade the utility or code requires
• Pipe bedding and backfill following the material and compaction standards for water line work

Why depth and separation matter

Water lines need adequate depth for frost protection and have required separation distances from sewer lines and other utilities — both set by local code and the water utility's standards. Getting this wrong isn't just a code violation risk; inadequate depth means a line vulnerable to freezing, and inadequate separation from sewer lines is a real contamination risk the utility inspects for before approving the tap.

What affects cost
