Example builds › L&S Excavation › Services › Solar Site Preparation

Ground-mount solar installations need a properly prepared site before panels ever go up — clearing to remove shading obstructions, grading for a stable, level array footprint, and access for both installation equipment and ongoing maintenance.
What's included
- Clearing vegetation from the array footprint and any shading trees or brush affecting sun exposure
- Grading the array area to the tolerances the mounting system requires
- Trenching for underground electrical runs from the array to the connection point
- Access road or path grading for installation equipment and future maintenance
What matters most on a solar site
Sun exposure and grade consistency drive most of the site prep decisions — clearing has to eliminate shading without over-clearing land you don't need to disturb, and the array footprint needs a stable, well-compacted, evenly graded base so the mounting system installs correctly and stays level over time.
What affects cost
Array footprint size, how much clearing is needed for sun exposure, distance and complexity of the electrical trenching run, and site access for installation equipment.

Frequently asked questions
How much clearing does a solar array actually need?
Enough to eliminate shading on the array through the day and across seasons — we assess sun angles and existing vegetation during the site walk rather than clearing more than necessary.
Do you handle the electrical work too?
We trench and run conduit for underground electrical runs; the actual electrical connection and system wiring is done by a licensed electrician or the solar installer.
Can you prep a site on a slope?
Yes — grading levels the array footprint to the mounting system's tolerance regardless of surrounding terrain, though a sloped site adds cost versus flat, open ground.
